The Cailleach is etched into the topography of Scotland; her name living in mountains, glens, rivers, lochs and seas. She is the creator of landforms, goddess of the weather, and guardian of the natural world. Her stories impart wisdom, teaching of balance between human necessity and the needs of nature. To this day, a dedicated shrine to the Cailleach is tended to by locals. It is a reminder to honour her wisdom in the face of the climate emergency, and to ensure the Cailleach’s landscape and stories do not fade into memory. First created for Glasgow University's Dear Green Bothy, marking Glasgow’s hosting of the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference – COP26. In 2026 this video went on to be shortlisted for the Scottish Nature Photography Awards.
